Content is King. But strategy is Queen.
It’s been a couple of weeks since we attended The Business Show 2017 (London Olympia). So, who did we see and what did we learn?
Warren Knight is a top 100 global influencer. His presentation on “How to get sales with social media” was thought-provoking and suggested the first step of social media is not social media. It’s about having a plan for success: goal, target, optimise and create. Content is King.
Warren talked about the 5 tips on how to be better at social media to win new business:
- Get started
- Prepare and research
- Know your customer
- Be consistent
- Promote, promote, promote
Social media, like all good marketing and branding, is a step-by-step process to get started. If, like R&CO. you’re just getting started with social media, you need to ask yourself the following question… What do you want to use social media for?
- Generate more traffic
- Increase sales by X%
- Share your passion
- Your competitor(s) does it
- Build your personal brand
- Grow turnover
- To have fun
According to Warren, word-of-mouth is a key influencer in purchasing decisions for 74% of consumers. Social media turns the first meeting from a handshake into a hug. But it’s marketing that turns a hug into a relationship.
At R&CO. it’s our job to ensure that what you say engages your audiences. Unlike Warren, we’re not social media experts, but we are communication specialists. We believe that marketing (like social media) is a process that has a beginning, middle and end. We start with research and analysis. Progress to planning. And finish with Design. The common denominator is strategy. Content may be king, but strategy is queen and she rules the roost.
